1st seminar
Well, that was interesting. If I’ve learnt one thing today, it’s that today’s student is older, less deferential, and a whole lot more self-assured than their mid-2000s equivalent. Plugged in and switched on.
On which note, I’m finding it a little unsettling to have students dialing in from elsewhere. Of course, I’m relieved that the college managed to get its telepresence thing up and running in time, but I still can’t work out how I’m going to get them working in groups.
Still, we got a couple of good “dialogues” going - some interesting comments about the ethics of information piracy, the psychology of griefers, and p2p networks as a site of resistance. They may be fiercely argumentative, but there’s a lot of potential in this group, alongside some really diverse and unusual interests. Which makes me happy. :)
